9x+y=23 => y = 23-9x

4x-2y=20 => 4x – 2(23-9x) = 20 => 4x – 46 + 18x = 20 => 4x + 18x – 46 = 20 => 22x – 46 = 20 => 22x = 20 + 46 => 22x = 66 => x = 66/22 = x = 3

4x-2y=20 => 4(3) – 2y = 20 => 12 – 2y = 20 => 2y = 12 – 20 => 2y = -8 => y = -8/2 => y = -4

(x, y) = (3, -4)

Proof:

5x + 3y = 3 => 5(3) + 3(-4) = 3 => 15 – 12 = 3
