x+6y=60

-x+2y=12

Solve using the elimination method (ordered pairs.. if any)

Sep 13th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

x+6y=60

-x+2y=12

we add x to give us zero, meaning we eliminated  x.

x+x=0

(1)x + (6)y = 60----- (1)
(-1)x + (2)y = 12----- (2)
(1) + (2)  (8)y = 72
Therefore, y=(72 / 8) = 9

Step 2:
Substitute the value y = 9 in any one of the equation.
Let us substitute the y value in the 1st equation, (1)x + (6)y = 60

1x + (6)*(9) = 60
1x + 54 = 60

(1)x = 6

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
