Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

2 times 2 to the second power over 2 to the eighth power

This can be expressed as:

2 x2^2/2^8   (i)

Remember 2=2^1(two to power one

Also remember: 2^a x 2^b=2^a+b,  1/2^a=2^-a

Therefore: 2 x 2^2 = 2^3

Then (i) becomes

2 x 2^2/2^8=2^3/2^8=2^3 x 2^-8= 2^3-8=2^-5=1/2^5

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

Sure, just a moment

Sep 14th, 2015

2 x2^5/2^8

Now 2 x 2^5=2^1+5=2^6

Therefore

2 x 2^5/2^8=2^6/2^8=2^6 x 2^-8=2^6-8=2^-2=1/2^2
