These are physical things that exist in the fabric of our day to day lives that, when viewed from the outside, signify something ABOUT American culture. You are to write a paper that examines a cultural signifier of your choice in a style similar to that of Jennifer Price. You must identify the sign and what is signified by the sign within the culture, and then examine the way in which the signifier (the thing itself) morphed from a concept within the culture to represent something ABOUT the culture. The style of your essay should be similar to that of Price: rooted in historical research on the object and utilizing language that is more specific to the domain of the object itself (ex: ornithological language for birds).
