to get it, you plugin 5 everywhere x is occurring and you solve the equation.

so if f=f(x) and x = 5  then f =f(5)


(43.7 +40.1)/2 = 41.9

(b) Find the average rate of change for f between x = 4 and x = 6.

Rate of change = Difference between the two values / difference of values of x


=(43.7 +40.1)/ 6-4

=3.6/2

=1.8
