1. British perspective: According to the documents that support the British position (Declaratory Act, Soame Jenyns and Samuel Johnson), what is the relationship of the colonies to Great Britain? What rights and authority does Great Britain have over the colonies?

 In the declaratory act it states that parliaments authority was the same in the American colonies as it was in England.  This meant parliament could make any law for the colony it wished with no approval needed by the colonies. As for the relationship between the two, Great Britain would see the colonies as a money making colonial territory that it had complete law making power over.
