This is a law of exponents problem. When an exponent is raised to an exponent, you multiply them.
So inside the parenthesis, c is technically raised to the 1 power and d is technically raised to the 1 power.
So, 5 x 1=5
5 x 1=5
c^(1 x 5) * d^(1 x 5)
= c^5 * d^5.
You cannot do anything else. There is also an identity
(a * b)^n=a^n * b^n.
Either way is a great way of thinking about it.
