This is a law of exponent problem. When a power is raised to another power, you multiply the exponents. So for our problem

(4^2)^4

4^(2 x 4)

4^8

Note 4^8=65536

We can check our work by first doing what is in the parenthesis, and then raise it to the fourth.

(4^2)^4

(16)^4=65536 (check!)
