Ketogenic diet denoted as keto diet has been recently popularized as a way of losing
weight. This popularity has led to a lot of people adopting this method as a weight loss plan.
While this method is seen to be highly effective in reducing weight, we realize that the method
has several flaws in it. The keto diet requires that people substitute their carbohydrates intake to
replace it with fats (Dhamija et al., 2013). This replacement allows the body to transition from
burning carbohydrates for energy into burning fat for energy which increases the metabolism of
the body leading to weight loss.
The ketogenic diet requires that a person reduces the carbohydrates intake to 50 grams or
less daily. This leads the body into a state of ketosis which leads to an increase in ketones which
supply this brain with energy and a reduction in blood sugar and insulin. Keto diet has proven to
be harmful to the body in several ways including the fact that it gives the body keto flu with
