The court’s decision on Education Rule is a victory for students with special needs
and parents. The decision will ensure that education is accessible to all students without
discrimination (News Today, n.d). Having access to quality education in a healthy
environment is progress that leads to equality and fairness in the country and give all people
an opportunity to lead a good life and pursue their dreams. Therefore the ruling will be a
milestone in the fight against racially based discrimination in education, unnecessary
placement and over-representation of students of colour.
The court’s ruling requires states to recognise district schools with significant
disproportionality in students of colour placed in special education systems or restraining
classrooms. On top of that, according to the decision children with a disability will receive
special education and other services that met their unique needs. Reversing the rule will also
ensure that racial discrimination in education has been addressed and systems that have
existed to discriminate students based on colour have been removed. The ruling is a
significant blow to institutions that rely on racial discrimination exercise control. The verdict
will prove vital to the realisation of America’s typical values of democracy and equality.
