Has the department of homeland security helped fight terrorism, or has it simply duplicated the efforts and jurisdictions of other agencies? How has it helped?

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has indeed helped to fight terrorism. They have created what they call a Fusion Center. This center is the central point for all of the agencies (State, Federal, Tribal, Local, and Territorial). They have filled a gap that no other single agency completely filled. These fusion centers are located throughout the U.S and help Law Enforcement, FEMA, Emergency Management Managers, Fire fighters, and other critical infrastructure to combine. The DHS is a combination of 22 federal agencies and departments. It is not different from other departments but it is the unification of departments. This unification allows shared information that, prior to 911, was segregated. Some of its accomplishments have to do with airport screenings, centralizing citizen reporting of suspicious activities, terrorist travel bans, and large sports venue security.
