Elijah parents told him every 4 hours of homework or reading he complete,he will be able to play 2.5 hours of video games. His friend Ishmael's parents told their son that he can play 45 minutes for every hour of home work or reading  time completes. If both boys spend the same amount of time on homework and reading this week, which boy gets more time playing video games? How do you know?

Elijah:

Let t_h=hours for homework

t_d=hours for video games

R=hours of homework/hours of video time=t_h/t_d

For Elijah: R_Elijah=4/2.5=1.6

For Ishmael R_Ishmael=60/45=1.33

so

R=t_h/t_d ------>t_d=t_h/R  ----(i)

For the same amount of homework time, Ishmael get to play more time by (i), that is R_Ishmael is smaller R_Elijah
