Out-of-class Theory Class Paper Directions: Write a 1-2 page analysis of a social situation applying two out of the three main sociological theories that have been discussed in every chapter. If you still don’t understand these theories, I suggest you visit: https://courses.lumenlearning.com/boundless-sociology/chapter/ theoretical-perspectives-in-sociology/. Social situations available are: Gender Sexuality Slavery American Football Game American sports in general US Education System Religion Aging US Judicial System US Social Class System Some of the above topics have been mentioned in the book or briefly discussed in class. Remember, if you take something from the book, it has to be cited properly. I encourage you to think of a new situation that you have observed and analyze that. That shows deep thinking and subject engagement. Structure of paper: In the introduction you need to describe the social situation you have chosen to analyze and explain why you chose that situation. Next, you need to identify, define, and fully explain the two theories you will use to analyze your situation. In the two-paragraph body you will do your analysis. This means that you will fully explain how the theory can be applied to the social situation. (Use my paper as a model if needed.) In the first paragraph of the body you will analyze the social situation using the first theory. Develop this paragraph by connecting the theory with the situation. In the second paragraph of the body you will analyze the social situation using the second theory and fully developing your connections. The conclusion of a sociology paper is the most important section. It’s more than a summary. Think of it as the So What paragraph. Here you need to examine what you’ve written in the previous paragraphs and ask yourself: “So what does this means?” Why is it important? What does it tell us? What questions does it raise? Does further research need to be done? Tips: Follow syllabus writing format. If you do research and get ideas from others, you MUST cite where you got it, author, year, and page number. DON’T BE TEMPTED TO CUT AND PASTE. This is obvious to any teacher who is paying attention. If you’re not sure how to properly cite, go to Purdue Owl writing center for directions. If you use somebody’s ideas and fail to cite, that is called plagiarism You will be given a 0 for plagiarism because you stole somebody’s ideas and tried to pass them off as your own. Start early and PROOFREAD!! Avoid merely getting something on paper and handing it in. This will result in a very low grade. The theory paper requires a good deal of thought, critical thinking, and review. Don’t wait until the last minute. Writing is a process and good writing takes time, several drafts, and several proofreadings. Spell-checking is not enough. I suggest you find a person good in English, and have her/him proofread your paper. You will be graded on content, level of analysis, critical thinking, logical expression, writing conventions, definition of terms, detailed development, logical connections, and critically thought-out conclusion. Read the rubric CAREFULLY. Your grade will be based on the rubric. stratification that have popularized the binary definitions of masculinity and femininity. Certain
gender roles and gender stereotypes have become linked to female oppression. Historically and
in nearly all parts of the world, there are various beliefs about women and their bodies that have
been used to justify and enable the subjugation of women by promoting the idea that women are
inferior to men. In the patriarchal world we live in, men are on top and women are in the bottom,
anything masculine is considered superior to anything feminine. There are certain ...
