Shaping is an important part of how we teach a new behavior.  What is an example of a behavior that may require shaping and explain the shaping process of teaching a new behavior?

An example behavior which may require shaping.

A student who does not take his assignments at all would require behavior shaping to be administered in order to make him/her take homework seriously.


Steps towards shaping this behaviour will be:

Breaking the homework in to small manageable chunks which are easy and not scary. This will help the student see it as an easy requirement.

For example..

The student can be asked to fill in their personal detains on a an answer sheet as the first step

Secondly they can be given say like one question to answer. Progressively the teacher can keep on increasing the number of questions while evaluating the desires of the student. This act creates an habit within the student until he or she gets used to doing assignments.
