RIP ESSAY My medium is a series of teenagers’ book, named A Magic Bookmark. The cover of my book would be a beautiful bookmark. My identity is a writer. My main audiences are teenagers. Therefore, I won’t use many complicated languages and sentence structures. I just need to make my story be easy to understand. Teenagers usually have abundant imagination. Therefore, I will develop a creative plot to catch their interest. My goal is to make teenagers know more about the culture of cowboys. Let teenagers feel a different society filled with violence and disorder and make them cherish the lives they own nowadays. Additionally, I would give a different style of ending from the No Country for Old Man, which implies that a new world has started with rules and justices. The main character is a 16-year-old boy whose name is Tom. One day after school, he was frustrated with his quiz. The proprietor of the bookstore gave him a magic bookmark. He returned home and put that bookmark in his book of No Country for Old Men. When he opened his eye again, he time traveled to the world of No Country for Old Men. This is the first story of this series. The magic bookmark can help him also travel to the dinosaur era, robot era, fairy tale era, etc. The story set in the border of Texas, Sheriffs were searching for a group of the drug dealer. Surprisingly, Tom find that he was an assistant of Bell, who was been reemployed. The mission of their group was to catch the “Boss” of one of the drug cartel. The only known information about him was that his code was “Snack”, about thirty years old, preferring to wear a black code. While catching a small group of drug cartel on their way to delivering the heroin, Tom decided to pretend one of the members in that cartel and be an undercover to locate where “Snake” was. At the end, Tom shot at “Snack”. When he opened his eyes again, he was back into his small room. All the things seemed like a dream, but he knew it doesn’t. At first, I wanted to develop a totally new story related to the Neo-Western. However, when I tried to look for some useful pieces of information in No Country for Old Man, I thought of writing a following-up story of it. I did not like the heavy atmosphere of the whole story, with little hope. I wanted to build a more positive atmosphere for the teenagers, encouraging them to fight for justice. The only character appeared both in No Country for Old Man and my story was Bell. In No Country for Old Man, Bell wasn’t an excellent Sheriff who did not save Moss and catch Chigurh. Therefore, I build the main character Tom, who was filled with momentum to catch the “Snakc” as the assistant of Bell. It was satire that Tom had opposite personality to Bell. Because of his personality, he completed the mission. Creating a follow-up story could make a contrast between No Country for Old Man and attract some of its old readers with new stimulation. The idea of time travel came from a novel I read in my middle school. The heroin travelled to the Qing dynasty of China and started her new life as a daughter of minister. I was looking forward I could also travel to the past or the future. Therefore, I combined this element into my short story. I believed that teenagers could also be attracted by this idea. The setting of the main character as a 16-year-old boy drew the teenagers into the story. Another reason I use time travel was to develop a series of books. Instead of just writing a story, the main character could time travel to different place and started different stories there, which satisfied the interest of all the teenagers. If a girl did not be interested in the story of cowboys, she could buy the book related to fairy tale. After thinking of the idea of creating a series of books, I needed to have a medium to help the main character complete the time journey. I remembered an old movie called The Ruby Ring. The ring was a medium which could help the main character complete the wishes and made the time travel. Since my story was the follow-up of No Country for Old Man, the bookmark contained in the book was a reasonable medium. If the bookmark was put into Hans Christain Anderson’s Fairytales, the main character could travel into the world of Fairytale. In addition, my idea of being an undercover in the organization came from the inspiration of The Departed. It included the mutual undercover operations between the Boston gang and the police. Therefore, when I designed the plot of my story, Tom got the chance to be an undercover and track the location of the “Snack”. Moreover, I used the name of animals to be the code of the main character. For example, the boss of the drug Cartel was “Snack”. Snack was a kind of animal with poison. They were good at hiding themselves, which was similar to the boss of the drug Cartel, since he did not want others to track him. On the contrary, Tom disguised as “Tiger”. Tiger was the animal representing the strength. I depicted Tom by the image of tiger to show his bravery. He had the courage to go steep into the enemy. If I give a score for my RIP project, I would predict it was B+. My idea of time travel was very novel, which met the preference of the teenagers. As a series of short story, I believed that many teenagers would like it. With the set of time travel, I could combine the element of Neo-western with modern society in a fluent way. However, my story was a little short and lack of details. If I have more time, I will let Tom be an undercover for a longer time instead of just facing the “Snack”. The process should involve more details about how Tom hides his identity and finds an opportunity to catch “Snack”. Additionally, I would add more plots related to the bookmark. For example, Tom could use the bookmark to travel back when he faces the danger. These additions of the plot will make my story more interesting and attract more teenagers to buy my book. Lu A Magic Bookmark It is at dusk. A 16-year-old boy Tom wearing black jacket is on his way from school to a bookstore. “Hi, Kelly,” Tom says. He is the frequent guest of the bookstore. “You seem a little frustrated, Tom. What happen?” The proprietor of the bookstore Kelly asks. “I stayed up and watched the book No Country for Old Man I bought yesterday. I Lu missed my quiz. “ “Omg. Do you enjoy that book?” “Of course! I want to be a cowboy too!” “Put this bookmark in that book.” Kelly gives him a delicate bookmark with the image of a small leaf. Tom sees an unusual smile on her face. “But why?” Tom asks. “You will see it.” After going back home, Tom put the bookmark into the book No Country for Old Man. He is looking forward to being a sheriff and getting his gun. When he opened the book again, the background of his room has changed into another private room with pale yellow light. His black jacket becomes into an old-style uniform. While he is shocked about the change, he hears someone is calling his name. “Sheriff Bell tells us that there will be an urgent meeting in five minutes. Come on, Tom!” Tom sees another boy wearing the same uniform. The name on his breastplate is Jack. Sheriff Bell? Is he the Sheriff in the book? Tom guesses. The Lu meeting may give him an answer. An old man is sitting on the front of the desk. The breastplate on his uniform represents his identity: Bell. By his suit, Tom finds that he is the one in No country for the old man! OMG! My dream comes true. I travel into the era in the book and become a real sheriff! “The mission of our team is to catch the ‘Boss’ of one of the drug cartels. The only known information about him is that his code is ‘Snack,’ about thirty years old, preferring to wear a black coat.” Bell says. “But how can we track them?” Someone asks. “I find two members of Snack’s drug cartel is transporting the heroin. They are in a hotel now. We can get more information about “Snack” from them. Does anyone want to be in charge of this mission?” Bell looks around all the team. “ I can do it.” Tom raises his hands, “ I’m confident that I can track Snack.” Tom is excited about this mission. It is a great chance for him to wipe out the immoral organization. Then he chooses Jack to be his assistant. Lu Tom and Jack catch two members “Tiger” and “Rabbit” in a remote hotel with the help of Bell. They tell Tom that their mission is to transport the Heroin to their base of the cartel. Snack will deliver them to California in person tomorrow, which means their only chance to catch “Snack” is tomorrow. However, if they go to their base, “Snack” may take advantage of the chaotic situation and run away. Then, Tom thinks of an idea to track Snack by pretending as one of the members. By being an undercover, he can be close to Snack. At the same time, the backup will surround the base. “But it’s so dangerous.” Jack is worried. “It’s our only opportunity to make sure we can catch him! Tell Bell I need some backup.” Tom insists. Tom drives his car to the base of the cartel: the underground of a dumped brewery. Pasting on the mustache, Tom looks similar like one of the members, “Tiger.” On the gate of the brewery, he is stopped by two men and taken away his gun. Lu “Leave your package and wait outside.” One of the men says. “There are some flammable materials inside this package. It’s so dangerous I must give it to Snack in person.” The man hesitates. “I find an excellent wine on my way back. After returning the package. How about having a drink?” When Tom gets into the room, there are three people in front of the table, two wearing black coats. “Snack, here are the Heroin. I’m afraid that Bell has found us.” Tom tries to imitate the voice of “Tiger.” One of the men wearing black coat asks: “Why do you say that?” “ I didn’t meet ‘Rabbit’ in the hotel. Maybe he was found by the Sheriff. I was so afraid that I just came back alone with this Heroin.” “Do you enjoy it?” The man wearing a yellow jacket asks. “I don’t. I’m afraid.” Tom hesitates. He is not sure what the man is asking about. Lu “You are not ‘Tiger.’ He is an addict of Heroin.” The yellow-jacket man stands up and comes up with a gun. “But you are ‘Snack’” Tom replies him with a bullet. He has prepared two guns. At the same time, several bullet shots are heard. Tom knows it is the backup of Bell. “I did it!” Tom is excited. But when he turns around, he sees his mom. “You did what? Your teacher has told me that you only get 20 for this quiz. Are you excited about the score?” His mom says. “I’m sorry mother. I promise not to fail again!” Tom answers. He lowers his head and sees the bookmark on his hand. Maybe this is a magic bookmark which can help him time travel. What will happen if I put it into another book? His mother smiles encouragingly at his response and says: “Okay son, do not disappoint your teacher and me again. Clean up; dinner is ready.” As his mother shuts the door to his room behind her, Tom rushes to find his another favorite book Jurassic Park. He puts the bookmark in the book. Lu Now, it’s the time for Jurassic Period. RIP ESSAY

My medium is a series of teenagers’ book, named A Magic Bookmark. The
cover of my book would be a beautiful bookmark. My identity is a writer. My main
audiences are teenagers. Therefore, I won’t use many complicated languages and
sentence structures. I just need to make my story be easy to understand. Teenagers
usually have abundant imagination. Therefore, I will develop a creative plot to catch

ending from the No Country for Old Man, which implies that a new world has started
with rules and justices.
This story is based on a third person omniscient narrator and that is my
identity as the narrator. As the narrator, I set my ethos through a close observation of
the thought process as well as the activities which my main character engages in.
however, I realize that my identity as the narrator is not highlighted in the story and
hence more could be done to ensure that. At the beginning of the story, I could present
my relationship with Tom or even my continued observation of the boy. This narration
could give me credibility and allow me the readers to know my close relationship
with the characters or my continued observation of their movements. However, the
intricate connection with the characters through the narration allows me to come
across as very familiar with them hence enhancing my credibility as the rhetor.

Additionally, the reason for choosing magic as my genre and a series as the
medium of the story is due to the appeal to teenagers. From experience when I was a
teenager, many youngsters love short stories which are dramatic but find a quick
resolution. With such short stories, they are able to read to completion and also
understand the different aspects of the story. For instance, heroism and the balance
between school and leisure are highlighted in the short story I have presented. By
creating a magic ...
