Do you believe that pressure from society to decriminalize certain possession of drug charges (because of society's changing views on what should and should not be considered a criminal act) led to these policy changes?
Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
Recent decriminalization of certain drug charges are absolutely an outcome of pressure being put on government by society. People are realizing that just throwing people in jail is not always the best response for certain drug charges. I think a large part of society wants drug laws that make sense. To many people throwing someone in jail for having a small amount of cannabis (a simple dried herb) makes no sense at all, and is seen as counterproductive to society as a whole. This opinion has been voiced for decades but I believe the amount of people thinking this way has reached a number large enough that governments can no longer ignore the issue.
