A homing device left its home to deliver a message. On takeoff the device encountered a tailwind of 12 mph and made the delivery in 15 minutes. The return trip into the wind took 30 minutes. How fast could the device fly in still air?

speed tailwind =12

so,distance /speed=time

s/x+12=15

s/x-12=30

therefore,

15(x+12)=30(x-12)

15x+150=30x-360

15x=510

x=34 mph
