1. Why do you think the Coca-Cola Company bought the wine business? Why did they sell
it later on?
I believe Coca-Cola was simply trying to diversify its product offerings and being that it was
already in the beverage business, wine may have seemed like the next market to conquer in order
to increase its reach and facilitate the continued growth of the company. Through diversification
it would be possible to achieve business synergy, reduce the overall risk of doing business and
protect itself in case of any future changes in taste and preference would leave some its products
at a disadvantage. More so the Coca- Cola may have wanted to pursue diversification after the
strategy had worked for its biggest competitor PepsiCo, the company, therefore, did not want to
be left behind. The company eventually decided to sell its wine business after realizing that this
business was a different jungle altogether, the product for one took too long to go into the
