Impact of Technology on the Young
Introduction
Technology has taken over our society that it has become increasingly hard to understand
what qualifies as technology. However, according to the National Association for the Education
of Young Children refers to both digital and analog materials such as applications, streaming and
broadcast media, e-books, the internet, software programs among other forms of content that
have been developed to enhance active and creative use by the young (NAEYC, 2012). It,
therefore, encompasses the CDs, DVDs, computers, tools, monitors or other electronic devices.
Exposing children to the screen while the very tender ages of below two years are discouraged
by professional agencies like American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) with the only exception
being when it is done in shorter and intermittent periods with greater involvement of the parent
who actively engages the child as they watch the screen. Blocking them all together is impossible

among other devices (Chassiakos et al. 2016). Such media are a form where the users can
actively create as well as consume the content. The engagement with technology or screen time
like watching a TV program should be one that is beneficial or of an educational nature to

growth and development and taken them away from the critical day to day activities, social
interactions, and active lifestyle negative impact on their mental, emotional, and physical health.
