Three topics that I have chosen from the video are Paraphrasing, Quotation and In-text Citations. Paraphrasing While writing assignments, students need to provide evidence from a variety of academic sources (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.). Professors want to see us demonstrate an understanding of this information, and paraphrasing allows us to do this (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.). One should paraphrase text when the meaning of the source is more concentrated than the actual wording but, a technical definition should not be paraphrased. This allows us to replicate this information in our own words focusing on specific details (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.). We need to paraphrase because of the following four reasons 1. To show our understanding of the source (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.) 2. To highlight a specific point from information found in a resource. 3. To avoid plagiarism (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.) and 4. To include the information in to our discussion (University of Bellfordshine, n.d.) Quotation quote must be used when we want the reader read important historical point said by A quotation is like using another person's words directly in our paper. It is mandatory to know, when to use a direct quote (Library research guides, 2018). We should not quote everything we want to say. Most of the things must be paraphrased (Library research guides, 2018). someone. A quotation must be presented in between the quotation marks (Library research guides, 2018). In-text Citations An in-text citation provides sourcing information about paraphrased text or quotation (Bell, 2017). An in-text citation is used to indicate that the paraphrased text or quotation originated with someone else and to give reader enough information that they can then find the equivalent reference in reference list (Bell, 2017). Citations appear in the main text and the standard format of it is (Author name, Year of publication, Location reference) (Bell, 2017). For example (Michael, 2018, p.5) The main aim of providing the research is to justify the thesis that we have provided in the argument. while providing strong support to the argument we may use the points or the data that are being stated by some other author. So there some need to give respect to the work that has been provided by others. There are many ways to provide a reference to this work by saying from whom we are referencing. Basically, research will help to provide a strong thesis by making use of books websites or the journals as proof of our work that our point is true and valid. So that the first job is to provide credit to those work by providing the in-text citation (Scott 2016). The next topic that was discussed in the video is the difference between summary and the paraphrasing the summary is the restatement or the brief idea of the content. in summary, we may focus on the central idea of the content by making it short. Whereas the paraphrasing the translation of the idea of the content by making it simple without changing the meaning. The order of the sentences changes whereas the meaning remains the same. paraphrase helps to remove the complexity of the content.it is sometimes better to add some work to the research take time and explain it properly so the readers can understand the work (Scott 2016). Another way to provide an extra step that we need to indicate while using somebodies" ideas. this indication can be done by using quotations and the parenthesis in the work. If we use any direct statement from the article or the from the textbook or journal it needs to be quoted with the quotations or with the parenthesis. or they should be considered as our own work. The words noted aa the own words without quotations will be considered as the plagiarism. so, it needs to be the quotation and the parenthesis in your paper, then it is considered as it is your idea (Scott, 2016). The main way of using this citation is by providing the author name and year inside the parenthesis by the sentence while using the direct statement the quotation marks needs to denote on the top of the sentence. Even the references can also be provided at the end of the paper. It is good to start the paper either with the quote or a paraphrase or single phrase or with a verb for introducing the research work. Sometime to provide the reference wording the most common word or the phrase we use is "According to the ..." or the "With reference to the ....". By using any of these works helps to provide a good intro and helps to get into the flow of your sentence with the right words. The citation helps to provide the information source from where it has been taken and tells the readers the main idea from where the author details are taken and book publication date etc. All the information needs to be noted when the reader tries to get the main information, they should be able to get the source information that we have provided in the research.
