The first editorial perspective is angle which is a useful perspective essential in sharing
the editorial thinking. This perspective will be used in bringing out the police killings as a public
health issue. From a health angle, police killings undermine the health of individuals in any
society. Some of the health effects of police killings vary depending on the different settings of
the people. Living in conditions where there is excessive police violence and killings affect the
health of the people involved which does not only include physical but also emotional
(Fitzgerald, 2007). Some of the health outcomes of police killings include: depression, diabetes,
high blood pressure, asthma occurrence and self-rated health.
Several editorial papers have described the efforts of one reining in police violence and
killings. Mixed methods have been used to document the occurrences of the violence especially
in the black population. The methods used shows that there is lack of the creation of a civilian
review board which has been downplayed as a result of the emergence of demonstrations against
