Pick one of the following structures or groups of structures in the digestive system and tell us in your own words what it does. Also tell us how its behavior is controlled. As part of your answer, imagine that you have eaten a greasy hamburger on a high fiber (both soluble and insoluble) bun and tell us what would be happening to it as a result of the activity of this structure.
Teeth and tongue, Salivary glands, Soft palate and epiglottis, Stomach, Pyloric sphincter, Duodenum, Pancreas
The pancreas: it has two components, the exocrine and endocrine part. the exocrine pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains pancreatic enzymes while the endocrine part secretes hormones like insulin and glucagon.
food intake controls its action, it is stimulated by food intake thus releases the pancreatic juice to the duodenum through the ampulla of Vater after food is ingested.
After consumption of high fiber diet, the pancreas will be stimulated to secrete especially the pancreatic lipase which aids in the digestion of starch which is usually contained in high fiber diet.
