Let's think of plane 1 as stationary, and plane 2 traveling

Let's call both their speeds s

then s+s+65=2s+65.

Well they will pass each other in 2 hours, so you take

2(2s+65)=1730 (solve for s)




We know that the total of their two speeds is as follows



Thus one plane is going 400 miles per hour, and the other is 465 miles per hour.

plane 1 is going

400 mph x 2hrs=800 miles

plane 2 is going

465 mph x 2 hours=930 miles

If you add these two together, you want to get 1730
