The nursing profession has undergone many drastic changes that have positively impacted the
nursing care services and quality of care that the patients receive. Since the time of Florence
Nightingale, nurses have been known to be just providing nursing care to the patients. With the
advances of the nursing profession with time, more aspects of nursing have been introduced
which have helped to shape nursing in a variety of ways. The nurses now have a variety of roles
to play in the healthcare system including advocacy for the patient rights and needs, health
education of the patients and the community, as well as providing direct nursing care to the
patients among others.
In the past few years, the growth of nursing leadership and the introduction of telemedicine have
been the recent significant improvements in the nursing profession. These changes have enabled
the nurses to exercise leadership in the management of patients in the health facilities as well as
advocate for the welfare of the nurses. Telemedicine has also made the nursing care process easy
and more efficient, hence, significantly improved the quality of care delivered to the patients
(Hoeve, Jansen, & Roodbol, 2014). The new changes in the nursing profession have widened the
scope of practice of the nursing profession, resulting in development of various models of
nursing care to ensure that quality services are provided to each patient.

Before responding to this question, it is essential to understand who the associate and
baccalaureate nurses are. An associate nurse is a nursing team member who provides support and
care to the patients as well as the service users. Students awarded an Associate of Science in
Nursing degree, which is a tertiary education program, qualify to apply for the Registered Nurse
license. On the other hand, the baccalaureate nurse is a nurse who has trained and qualified as a
Bachelor of Science or a degree nurse.
The baccalaureate and the associate nurses have similarity in some of the tasks they perform in
the course of providing nursing care; both nurses can provide direct total nursing care to the
