Find the line that passes through the points (-2,3) and (1,-12)

Sep 24th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

To find the equation of the line passes through the points (-2,3) and (1,-12) ;

first we know the form of an equation of line is :  y = ax + b

so should we find  a and b

to find a , must   a = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = (-12 - 3)/(1 - (-2)) = -15/3 = 5

so : y = 5x + b to find  b should chose one point (-2,3) per exemple

and we put the point on the equation :

3 = 5 * (-2) + b

so :

3 = -10 + b

so :

b = 13

finally the equation of the line is :

y = 5x + 13
