With the advent of community policing, certain concerns have been expressed as to potential ethical dilemmas that community-oriented police officers may experience as a result of their having greater discretion and more public interaction than other officers within the department.

Introduction
Community policing is a strategy in which police officers work in a region permanently
as they engage the members of the community. Through community policing, the police officers
build relationships with the inhabitants of that area creating clear communication among them.
As the police officers conduct regular patrols in the areas that they have been assigned, they
target to reduce low-level crime that can eventually reduce more severe crimes (Maguire et al.,
2017). Since the authorities are in communication with the residents, they encourage them on
how to handle issues that affect them, including crime. Without a doubt, community policing is
the solution to the problems experienced in the city.
Community Policing and Problem-Solving
The officers and the supervisors should embrace community policing and the problemsolving approach while performing their duties. This is in contrast with the traditional policing
system that is being used currently. The traditional policy focuses on solving real-time problems
without offering long-lasting solutions. For example, the police would respond to an emergency
call, arrest and convict a criminal (Gill et al., 2016). They aim to protect other citizens from
offenders. In community policing, the officers are tasked with maintaining a safe and orderly
community for the people. While apprehending lawbreakers is still a concern, the police are also
interested in solving the crime issue. However, problem-solving involves community
participation; hence the members of the community can also identify the issues that affect them.
