How to Minimize the Negative Influence of Social Media on People's Lives?
Introduction
The rate of negative influence from social media platforms is at an increasing pace,
especially among young people. Social media refers to applications and websites that allow
people to share information and create networking primarily controlled by the internet.
Technological advancements have both positive and negative impacts on the current social life
mostly through the internet. Some of the applications primarily used in the current generation are
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other many programs. Research shows that social media
has affected morals in the society causing a gap that requires comprehensive solutions to fix. The
internet as the main component of social media allows access to all forms of information that
degrade the reasoning and morals among young people. The Youngsters Organization has come
up with several ways that can significantly minimize the negative impact of social media on
people.
Thesis: Social media is a networking tool in the current generation, but the negative
impacts have surpassed the positive effects thus calling for a solution. The paper focuses on the
causes, influence, and ways of reducing the rate of negative have implications among people.
Negative Effects
The first negative impact of social media is the mismanagement of time because most
people have social media accounts. Most people check their minds multiple times in a day even
when at work and in school. The time that an individual spends on social media is more than the
time one is expected to concentrate on a different activity. The level of interaction among people
in a working or schooling environment is limited because most people spend time on their
phones. Secondly, social media affects mental health because of the distractions associated with

the information and habits in the forums (Fardouly et al, 2015). According to mental health
professionals, the constant distraction of social media leads to a shortened span to attention on a
specific task. Many people using Facebook and Twitter have increased chances of suffering high
levels of stress according to research.
Spreading of untrue information is the third adverse effect due to the posting of fake
news. Social media allows quick access to any information through different platforms that affect
the reputation of a brand in the market. Some of the conventional sources of rumors that change
the state of business include online reviews, unfortunate incidents, unclear health information
and the political lines in the sand (Allcott & Gentzkow, 2017). The rampancy of online bullying
and tensions in places of work associated with young people is a negative impact. Some of the
incidences are unpleasant texts, comments, messages and photos shared through the social sites
that cause workers extreme stress that leads to poor performance. The social media platforms
create tension through the sharing of memes and opinions among members of a specific group.
The overall impact of the adverse effects is the erosion of morals among the young people in the
current generation.
Causes
The negative impacts of social media result from several factors that society tends to
ignore in most cases. The first reason is an addiction which refers to uncontrollable use of a
particular application for personal fulfillment. Some individuals cannot control their visits on the
accounts because of habits created from practice. Some young people face the addiction of
watching morally inappropriate videos causing moral degradation. Addiction saps most of an
individual's time which decreases the level of productivity (Carrier et al, 2015). Secondly, lack of
regulations in the social world especially at work where employees do not have rules governing

them assess to the internet. The Youngster organization focuses on using the causes as the
reversal tools to the appropriate solution.
Solution
The negative impacts of social media can be solved through a variety of methods that
focus on making social media an asset to the community. Firstly, employers and parents can
concentrate on instilling discipline on the amount of time to spend on social media. In the places
of work, social media can be monitored to ensure that workers do not waste working hours on
their accounts (Wisniewski et al, 2015). Time management is an essential factor in improving the
level of productivity. Parents must also provide that their children, especially among the youths,
spend more time doing useful tasks and less on social media. Installation of time-based discipline
plays a significant role in improving the economic level of an organization.
The second solution is based on the personal decision that each person in the society must
work towards implementing. Most of the applications are assessed using their gadgets such as a
mobile phone, tablet, or a laptop. One may move the forms of the home screen to increase the
number of steps required to open the app. The increased number of measures reduces the number
of times one will open the application thus reducing the associated effects. People may schedule
specific times when to check social media to ensure that the planned activities are performed
without time constraints (Gholami et al, 2016). The use of silent or the "do not disturb" button
because some applications have notifications that disrupt an individual to check the social media
accounts. Taking breaks from social media by limiting the number of apps on use aids to
reduces cases of extreme stress. People may also stick to specific groups which they use the most
in communication. The solutions focus on reducing the effects of social media by reducing the
time spent on the sites.

Conclusion
Social media as a networking platform has both positive and negative impacts on society.
The adverse effects of social media are categorized under economic, health and social. The
health-related impacts are caused by extreme stress that may result from online cyberbullying.
Other impacts are time waste, erosion of morals and lack of self-esteem because of the original
messages posted on social media. The leading causes of the excessive use of social media are the
addiction and lack of discipline strategies in families and places of work. The solutions that best
solve the problem are proper time management and policy setting in families and places of
employment. The society must consider embracing a personal mile by instilling discipline,
especially when using gadgets such as phones and laptops to access social media. In conclusion,
to reduce the negative impacts of social media personal and public commitment is essential for
all members of society.
