John did not paint to the edges of the paper. he decides that he wants to crop the painting by cutting off 1/4 meters from each of the 4 sides of the paper. what are the new dimensions of the painting written in the form a/b? what is the area of the cropped painting in the form a/b expressed in lowest terms? Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

length = 21/8 m

width = 7/4 m

area = 21/8 * 7/4

        = 147/32 m sq

        = 4  19/32 m sq

area of four sides = 1/4 *1/4

                            = 1/16 m sq

new area = 147/32 - 1/16

                = 147/32 - 2/32

                = (147-2)/32

                = 145/32 m sq

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
