Interest groups are organizations that share a set of goals and objectives with a common
interest, so they work together in protecting and promoting their interests by influencing the
government. They vary in aims, tactics and even sizes. There are two broad categories of interest
groups; these are the economic interest groups and the non-economic interest groups.
Economic interest groups are those who seek economic advantage for their members and
are the most common types of interest groups. They include business groups, labor unions,
agricultural groups, professional associations, and food and drugs administration groups.
Business groups work to promote the interests of private companies and other corporations by
