Situational leadership is  type of leadership skills whereby the leader/manager analyses a need according to a particular need or situation and makes decision using the most appropriate leadership style.

Its a powerful tool which can enable an individual to be more effective in influencing others. It enables leaders to comprehend the relationship between an effective style of leadership and the level of readiness and willingness of the group that he/she leads.

It is applicable in situation  where the manger needs to adjust his/her leadership style to suit the development  level of the followers or group he/she is trying to influence.

It can be applied in the following functions of management:

1. Directing

2. Delegating

3. Participating and support

4. Research and development
