Medical significance of LTA

LTA is one of the major constituents of the cell wall of gram positive bacteria, it has some antigenic properties which are able to immune system by activating the complement system which willthen induce passive immunity. it is also able to stimulate the release from neutrophils and macrophages of the reactive oxygen and nitrogen species which may function synergistically to enhance cell destruction.
