Description

How many times have you sat in traffic and thought, “there’s gotta be a better way!”

Los Angeles is known (among other things) for its vast freeway system. Does it work? Is it an answer to yesterday’s problem or a solution we can apply in the future?

Give some thought to Transportation Policy.

How do you think we should be getting around (all 10 million of us in LA County)?

What’s stopping us?

How do we get from where we are (philosophically speaking) to where we would like to be?

In other words, how do we make real progress on addressing the transportation challenges we face moving into and through the 21st Century?

Give this some thought, and see if you can support your insights and claims with objective citable information (as in R-E-F-E-R-E-N-C-E-S).

I have sat in traffic severally and become so irritated by the slow traffic and the
unending traffic rules which some drivers do not adhere to. In those instances I thought to
myself “as a metropolitan city, there must be some changes in the near future to save the
situation.”

Los Angeles is known (among other things) for its vast freeway system. Does it work? Is
it an answer to yesterday’s problem or a solution we can apply in the future?
Los Angeles is indeed one of the most advanced cities as far as transport is concerned;
this mainly has to do with its vast freeway system (Leveugle, Toraille, & Waquet, 2018).
Notably, the system was set up in 1947 and by 2004 only 60% of the plan had been
implemented. As such, there still lies room for improvement in the LA traffic arrangement.
At the same time, so much has advanced since 1947, meaning there can be major
improvements in the area too. The other cities can, however, use LA as an example since it
uses very sophisticated tools to mitigate traffic, especially as it partners with Waze.

Give some thought to Transportation Policy.
Since the city is dominated by cars, the policy must address the future since the cars
are likely to increase and that’s likely to affect the smooth flow of traffic (Leveugle, Toraille,
& Waquet, 2018). Notably, the transport policy does not favor the car but in my view, I
