4 and z form the legs of a right triangle where 4 is the horizontal leg and z is the vertical leg.

Therefore the hypotenuse is sqrt(4^2 + z^2) = sqrt(16+z^2)

Then,

sinX = opp/hyp = z / sqrt(16+z^2)

cosX = adj/hyp = 4 / sqrt(16+z^2)

tanX = opp/adj = z/4
