Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

distance to be covered:

36 mi * (63360 in / 1 mi) = 2 280 960 in

(2 280 960 in long)(4.0 in wide) = 9 123 840 in²

(9 123 840 in)²  * (0.0833 ft)² / (1 in)² = 760 015.88 ft² need to be covered

1 qt = 43 ft²

1 qt / x = 43 ft² / 760 015.88 ft²

x = 17 674.79 qt

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

pshyde,

I forgot to convert between ft & ft²

This is the actual answer... (sorry about that oversight)

9 123 840 in²  * (0.0833 ft)² / (1 in)² = 760 015.88 ft² need to be covered

9 123 840 in²  * 0.0069 ft² / 1 in² = 62 954.5 ft² need to be covered

1 qt = 43 ft²

1 qt / x = 43 ft² / 62 954.5 ft²

x = 1 464 qt
