Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Stay strong thesis is debatable. "Most birds fly" is non debatable but saying, "banning firearms in Ohio will lower murders by 25%" is debatable. You need to choose a statement that you will then prove through the paper you are writing. Make sure you keep our focused and not to broad. Also, decide on a claim style. Claims can be: fact, cause and effect, value, or solutions and polices (to name a few). Check out https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/588/01/ for help with this.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

Sorry, Posted too quick. Here is the final version!

A strong thesis should be something that is debatable. "Most birds fly" is not debatable but saying, "banning firearms in Ohio will lower murders by 25%" is debatable. You need to choose a statement that you will then prove through the paper you are writing. Make sure you keep your thesis focused and not too broad. Also, decide on a claim style. For your speech analysis class you could try the cause and effect claim. Something like, “Speaking too fast causes people to miss the message that the speaker is trying to portray.” This is debatable (JFK was a renowned –and fast- speaker) yet studies even as far back as the 1880’s (The Educational Journal of Virginia, p.476) until now (http://totalcommunicator.com/talk_article.html) support that most people should speak closer to the cadence that our current president uses.
