In a 6-inch diameter pipe, what is the velocity of the water at 400 GPM?

Sep 30th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Q= flow rate= 400 GPM

1G=231cubic inches

1M=60s

so Q= (400 x231)/60=1540 cubic inch persecond

Q=V xA    (because area x velocity is volume per time)

V= velocity

A= Area=pi x r^2= pi x 3^2=28.3 inch squared                        r=diameter/2=6/2=3

V=Q/A=1540/28.3=54.4 inch/s

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
