TRANSLATING EVIDENCE

Evidence based practice refers to the problem solving approach in clinical practice
that incorporates the best evidence from the best available designs, the patient’s preferences,
and finally, the clinical expertise in making the decisions about patient’s care. Evidence
based practice is an integral part of any discipline. Evidence Based Practice is quite critical in
the nursing profession because most health care decisions are made based on the supported
evidence and the professionals. This is inclusive of the process of delivering gathered
evidence. One of the models put forward to ensure that the findings from research can be put
into use is the distillation process of the information that is put into use. This process is
essential because it ensures that the chances of errors are minimized, medical errors are
rectified, and changes are effected in the field (Boswell & Cannon, 2018).
There are a number of interventions that have been brought forth to promote health
among patients. One such evidence based practice is the enhanced comfort. The meaningful
comforting interventions provided by nurses are geared towards the promotion of best
outcomes for both the patients and their families. As a result, it is expected that the patients
will engage in health-seeking behaviors which at the end of it all it will improve their overall
health and comfort (Aksay&Pasinlioglu, 2017).
It is however important to note that each individual will experience comfort in their
own unique way. Each and every person has their own expectations when it comes to
comfort. Simply put comfort is what a person believes it is. Comfort is affected by physical,
psychological, social, and environmental factors. Comfort will go a long way in ensuring that
there is relieve, ease, and transcendence which are achieved through a caring relationship
with the nurses. Relationships can therefore, be referred to as the person’s interactions with
people in their environment and self-characteristics on a person’s cultural background and
other environmental factors that shape them into who are they are. It is therefore, important to
understand the characteristics that are associated with the concept of comfort because

creating clarity and a proper definition will allow the work of the nurses to be recognized.
These two reoccurring characteristics are a good fit because patients will seek and experience
comfort uniquely because of prior past experiences and how they perceive the world around
them (Andersen, 2016).
This evidence based practice is based on the Kolcaba’s comfort theory. The theorist
was convinced that comfort encompassed among other things being a basic human need, it is
experienced holistically, and the self-comfort may be healthy or unhealthy, if comfort is
achieved in a healthful way it could lead to greater productivity for the patient. If the needs of
the patient are met then the patient will be experience comfort in the form of relief. For
instance, a person receiving medication after a surgery is receiving relief comfort. Comfort is
a concept that is at the heart and soul of nursing. It is important that the nurses provide
comfort to patients and their families through these interventions. The credibility of this
concept of comfort is mainly supported by its incorporation into the national electronic
databases such as the National Interventions Classification, National Outcomes
Classification, and the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. The theory mainly
advocates for the assessment of comfort needs and how comfort levels can be achieved.
Additionally, there should be objective assessment which refers to the physical observation of
how the patient is healing while subjective assessment refers to enquiring whether the patient
is comfortable by asking them and noting it down on the patients notes. The patients include
individuals, families, institutions, and communities in need of healthcare. It is important to
note that nursing is the process of assessing the patient’s comfort needs, developing, and
implementing appropriate nursing care plans. The assessment should be both objective and
subjective so as to achieve the best possible outcome out there. In the nursing profession it is
imperative that the health needs of the patients be me...
