which include: what, when, where, and why. Therefore, there are various reasons why we study
communication because it is not common sense. First, communication helps individuals to
develop cognitive abilities. Through cognitive skills, we can process information quickly as well
as enabling us to develop critical thinking skills. Also, through communication, we can identify
the social norms of different cultures. For instance, as we learned, communication helps us to
identify various contexts and the meaning they have in that particular culture. Finally, we study
communication as it influences cultural differences. For instance, different cultures communicate
differently, hence the need to learn the different types of non-verbal cues across cultures.
