a. If water exist in soil as films only (that is, water is only coating particle surfaces), explain why you would expect more water in a clay soil than in a sand.

this is because clay has a smaller particle size than sand hence with a bigger surface area, this translates to a higher surface area to volume ratio. it thus has more water in contact with it and hence holds more water
