Over the last 20 years, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) ranks first by having a team in the championship game 10 times. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) ranks second by having a team in the championship game 8 times. However, these two conferences have both had teams in the championship game only one time. Use these data to estimate the following probabilities.

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

by the formula of probability we know,

p (AUB) = p(A) +p(B) - p(AnB)

here

p(A) means ACC has a  team in the championship game = 10/20

p(B) means SEC has a  team in the championship game = 8/20

p(AnB)  means both have a  team in the championship game= 1/20

p(AUB) means either  team in the championship game

then according to the formula : p (AUB) = p(A) +p(B) - p(AnB)

so p (AUB) = 10/20  + 8/20  - 1/20  = 17/20

So the probability for either  team in the championship game = 17/20
