Explanation & Answer

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Many people believe that chameleons change color as way of disguising themselves from their predators. However, this is just a secondary reason as to why they do so. The main reason is actually to communicate their mood. By changing their color, chameleons send important signals to their their colleagues. For instance, a chameleon may change into bright colors in order to signify that it is looking for a mate. Chameleons may also change color to help its body survive temperature changes. For example, it may change its color to black in order to absorb higher heat and thus help warm its body. Thus, the main reason why chameleons change color is to reflect their moods.
