H is 676 but I need to know how they got that.

direct roots of this problem is not possible so we need to use quadratic formula to solve it

h=[ -b +- sqrt (b^2 - 4ac)] / 2a

in the given problem

a= 16

b=16 

c= 672

so put the values in formula

 h=[ -16 +- sqrt (16^2 - 4*16*672)] / 2 (16)

h=[ -16 +- sqrt (256 - 43008)] / 32

so h is

h = -1/2 + 6.46 i          or    h = -1/2 - 6.46 i 

H is not 676
