The scene is set in the parlor adjoining the motel office where the two meet for a snack; they discuss Norman’s hobby, taxidermy. It seems at first an innocuous little conversation between a shy young man and an attractive woman who is clearly out of his league. But there is more to this little conversation than meets the eye, as implied by the mise-en-scène.
