when an atom or a molecule makes transition from a high state to low state energy level it emits energy in the form of  electromagnetic radiations which is equal to the difference of energies between two states. the spectrum of these electromagnetic radiations is called atomic emission spectrum.

and energy of a photon or atom at a level is 

E= hv

here h is planks constant and v is frequency
