Branches of the Federal Government
Discuss three ways to achieve greater balance of power among the three branches of the federal government?
The three branches of the government are the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. One of the ways to achieve balance of power among these three branches is to have constitutional provisions on the powers of each branch. This will ensure that each branch is protected by the constitution in its mandate and is guided on what it can and cannot do. Thus, using the constitution and following it the way it is written is the best way to balance power between the three branches (Princeton Review (Firm), 2003).
Another way of achieving such balance is by having check and balances on any arm to the other. In this case, one branch is mandated with checking the works of the other and reminding it or even taken legal actions if it goes beyond its mandate (Roberts, 2013). This ensures that the powers of all the branches are balanced.
In general, the balance of power is achieved because each branch depends on the other and none can survive on its own (Varone, 2014). For instance, the legislature has the power to pass bills and the president (executive) has the power to sign them into law while the judiciary has the implementation power. Thus, there are a number of ways of achieving balance among the different branches of the federal government.
