Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy aimed at treating problems and
improving happiness level through the modification of dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and
thoughts by encouraging change in destructive cognitive behavior pattern. Rational Emotive
Behavior Therapy (REBT), on the other hand, is a philosophical based therapy that aims to
identify self-defeating or irrational thoughts and feelings and replace them with rational and
healthier thoughts and feelings which are more productive to oneself.
The main similarity between CBT and REBT is the fundamental emphasis on a patient belief as a
central focus in case conceptualization and treatment planning (Padesky, C. A,.2003) that is, both
hold the view that, a person's thoughts influences their feelings which in turn guides their actions
or behavior. Hence, for psychotherapy to be effective it must be aimed at boosting a normal
positive thought process in an individual which will yield better thoughts...
