Description

Write an essay in which you interpret the overall meaning (or message) of a single poem in MLA Format. Choose a poem which you feel provide enough depth and material for your essay. Make sure to express the meaning or the message in a clear thesis statement. The best way to approach this essay would be to ask yourself: "What's the single message, or lesson, the poet is trying to get across?" If you can answer that question, you will be on your way to developing an arguable thesis. A thesis statement will look something like this: "In the poem [ insert name of poem], the author [name the author] suggests that [insert a claim that is arguable]. For example: " In the poem, "The Vigil", the poet Rumi suggest that human beings have an innate need for spiritual companionship that ultimately finds us. Minimum 1200 words, and team for this poem will be People among People. The explanation have to go before inserting the quote.

Notice

This evening, the sturdy Levi's
I wore every day for over a year
& which seemed to the end
in perfect condition,
suddenly tore.
How or why I don't know,
but there it was: a big rip at the crotch.
A month ago my friend Nick
walked off a racquetball court,
showered,
got into his street clothes,
& halfway home collapsed & died.
Take heed, you who read this,
& drop to your knees now & again
like the poet Christopher Smart,
& kiss the earth & be joyful,
& make much of your time,
& be kindly to everyone,
even to those who do not deserve it.
For although you may not believe
it will happen,
you too will one day be gone,
I, whose Levi's ripped at the crotch
for no reason,
assure you that such is the case.
Pass it on.

Notice- Poem by Steve Kowit
In poetry, a poet always has a message to deliver. However, the message in some
instances is delivered subtly and it would take a critical analysis to get the poem’s meaning.
Kowit as a veteran poet artistically drove his message in a seemingly clear way in the “Notice.”
The direct interpretation of the poem reveals that he is discussing life. There are so many
situations that impact life, and in some circumstances, people say life is complicated. Kowit in
his wisdom has a message about life. He gives a perspective about life and some of the points he
makes seem to suggest that life is complicated to understand. In the poem, Notice, the poet,
Kowit implies that life is short and can untimely be ended by death, hence those lucky to be alive
should enjoy it to the fullest.
The poem insists that death is unpredictable and hits at an unexpected time. In stanza one,
the persona states that the sturdy Levi’s that he wore daily for more than a year tore apart. Levi’s
is a type of jeans and the use of the word, “sturdy” implies the strength that it bore. In essence,
this stanza seems to suggest strength a person exudes when they are healthy. Critically, this can
be understood to mean the cheerful nature or deportment that people display when healthy.
When a person is hale and hearty, they are boisterous, strong and happy to engage in several
activities. However, the use of ...
