OUTLINE OF GROUP PROJECT The project’s purpose is to provide you with an opportunity to integrate and apply the material learned in this class to the development of a “real-world” marketing plan for a Canadian company planning to expand their business to a market outside North America. Put yourself in the role of a marketing executive for a specific, real Canadian company of your choice. Your assignment is to identify a new market space (i.e., marketing opportunity) in a country outside North America for that company and provide strategic recommendations for entering the space, based on your understanding of the consumers comprising your target segment. The project is comprised of three parts: Part I is a cultural analysis; Part II is an economic analysis; and Part III is a market audit and competitive market analysis. Please feel free to contact me about any aspect of the project that is unclear to you, both before and as you proceed through the assignment. Page numbers are not absolutes! Length should be determined by the nature and quality of content needed. Appendices/exhibits may be attached if needed for further explanation or clarification. Emphasis is on an understanding of how to assess a foreign market. This means that all necessary components should be acknowledged, even if beyond the scope of the term project. Bellow, you will find a description of the core components of the project. I. Cultural Analysis Cultural Analysis: The data suggested in the cultural analysis includes information that helps the marketer make market-planning decisions. However, its application extends beyond product and market analysis to being an important source of information for someone interested in understanding business customs and other important cultural features of the country. With that said, your country analysis should contain at least one paragraph on each of the following areas: PART I: Introduction to the Culture of the Country I. Include short profiles of the company, the product to be exported and the country with which you wish to trade. II. Brief discussion of the country’s relevant history III. CULTURAL ANALYSIS
Executive Summary
In this project, the discussion covers the analysis carried out by Sobeys in order to

establish a new market. Sobeys is a Canadian based company that specializes in food retailing. It
dominates the markets of Canada in terms of food supplies to the clients thereby making it a
trusted distributor. However, the company plans to extend its geographical cover from national
to international level. This is because the opening of new branches outside Canada will assure
more profit for the entity as well as commanding global market dominance. This idea needs
strategic measures to be put in place to ensure success.
The company has chosen Ireland as the main destination for its new business branches.
Nevertheless, there are challenges that Sobeys need to overcome in terms of new environment.
Establishing a nourishing business enterprise in a new location that has a different cultural
atmosphere needs proper planning (Moisander & Valtonen, 2016). This is because the culture
that is practiced in a certain area dictates the goods and services purchased. Additionally, an
economic analysis of the new area is a building plan for the Sobeys company.
The report explains all the measures that a company should put in mind for it to achieve
certain objectives. The main objectives are expanding the market of its goods and dominating the
foreign marketplace. Religions practiced in Ireland and languages spoken are the major features
that explain the culture of the nation. Language understanding (Irish) is the vital component for
the marketing people in the selling of the goods. The living conditions of the new setup in terms
of diet and nutrition, housing, clothing, and recreational sports are other cultural practices that
need to be understood by Sobeys in the research. The success of the enterprise lies behind these
major cultural beliefs.
