Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
The Articles of Confederation were a huge failure. Socially, the implications that the articles caused were not at all great. It meant that each state held power, it's own power, it's own freedom, laws, independence, military and perhaps most important, currency. This created a very divided nation, with no central authority in place and as history has shown us, this always leads to chaos. It meant that smaller states had less or more power than larger states, even though they were part of the same nation. Economically, it was a disaster. America had a lot of debt to pay back to France, and it's allies from the war. War costs money. With each state creating it's own currency and with Congress with the inability to control trade, America had dug itself a hole. Politically, a country like this would never stand. As Lincoln once said: A house divided against itself cannot stand. Similarly this is the case here. A disorganized America will never survive without a central or executive government. This is why the Articles of Confederation were replaced quickly and re-written to become the Constitution we know today. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Great! Thank you so much for your help!! I appreciate it!
I have a couple of questions to ask you. Can you expand on politically? Do you mean that the US can't stand the war costs and the government itself? Also, what is the social factor?
By politically, i mean that history has shown that countries without a centralized government have been known to fail throughout time. Great nations and more importantly successful ones have a centralized government. There was no executive branch of government so there was no regulation of central laws everyone had to follow. Without the right to trade the entire nation's goods Congress becomes pretty weak, and useless. The US had war costs, and it needed to pay it back, before building itself up.
Socially, the articles of confederation created a rift between the states. The people were all the same but were divided under different laws. If a person wanted to move from one state to another, they would have to adjust their lives to the laws of that state. Also this created problems and shifting opinions on slavery and racism. So socially, it was a big problem.
