Introduction
African American’s were segregated when it came to battle field wars. They were
assigned support roles and rarely engaged in combats. However, they continued to volunteer
themselves to join the Allied force upon USA’s entry into the First World War (WW1). This
essay paper explores the history of Freddie Stowers in the US military, the units, regiments and
people he served under. This paper will also explain why and how he was later awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor and the impact of this recognition to other African American
